Angel Granger-Caploe | Relationship Manager
Tell us a little about your background
I was born in Oklahoma, grew up in Wisconsin, and moved to Tennessee after college for my first job. After living there for eight years, we moved to Virginia for my husband's job. We've lived here 10 years. My first two jobs out of college involved working with teen boys with behavioral problems, then teen girls and boys with addictions and mental health challenges. I have a biological son who is 12 and a daughter adopted out of foster care who is 4.
Why did you choose to join the Wild Oak Haven team?
When we moved to Virginia I became a stay-at-home-mom, then homeschool parent, then foster mom. I've worked many flexible jobs in order to maintain those roles. From caregiver, to in-home Recreational Therapist (what my degree is in), to mobile childcare provider for a friend's business. I worked with teens for eight years in Tennessee and really missed it.
What are you most excited about in your new role, and what perspective or value are you hoping to bring?
I love to learn, so I am excited to learn a new job. I am also excited to meet people and (prayerfully) make lasting connections between them. I will bring my lived experience/perspective. Even before foster care, I've taken lots of classes and read books on trauma and the brain.
What are a few things you enjoy outside of work (hobbies, interests, etc.)?
I am an extroverted introvert, so I love to "people" then go home and read a book. I like to be in nature, love to learn by taking free classes (shoutout to the VB public library!), crochet, and craft. Surprisingly, I've kept a sourdough starter alive since 2020, but I try planting a garden every year only to be reminded that my green thumb is actually brown.
Do you have a favorite quote, motto, or life philosophy?
Our family motto is 'Love God, Love people." We figure everything else should fall in to the right place if those are first.
